Effects of Two Doses of MPX Capsules on Rising Prostate-specific Antigen Levels in Men Following Initial Therapy for Prostate (condition).

Synopsis. "This research is being done to test an investigational product called Muscadine Plus in the treatment of men who have received initial therapy (surgery and or radiation, cryotherapy or brachytherapy) for prostate (condition) and are experiencing a rise in their prostate-specific antigens (PSA) level."

Muscadine Plus in Treating Rising PSA Levels in Men Carrying a Specific Gene Variant (Alanine / Alanine SOD2 Genotype) Following Initial Therapy for Prostate (condition).

Synopsis. "Each treatment cycle consists of once daily oral dosing of 4000 mg Muscadine Plus, every day throughout each 12 week (84 day) cycle. Patients may continue to receive additional cycles of study drug and will be followed every three months with standard visits with their physician until completion of 48 weeks of study treatment, disease progression, or until they wish to discontinue the drug.

Ellagic acid inhibits DNA Methyltransferase. DNA Methyltransferases (DNMTs) are a family of enzymes that regulate chromatin methylation and use S-adenosyl methionine (SAM) as the methyl donor. Ellagic acid's metabolite, urolithin-A inhibits the protein complex nuclear factor kappa-light-enhancer of activated B-cells (NFkB), potentially leading to increased rates of apoptosis and decreases in cell proliferation. Extracts from Vitis rotundifolia have shown inhibition of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-Akt pathway."

Muscadine Plus in Treating Rising PSA Levels in Men Carrying a Specific Gene Variant (Alanine / Alanine SOD2 Genotype) Following Initial Therapy for Prostate (condition).

Synopsis. "Muscadine plus (MPX) is made from Muscadine grape skins that have been dried and ground into powder. Studies in the laboratory suggest the grape skins contain natural compounds that slow the growth of prostate (condition). About one out of every four men has the specific deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) (Alanine / Alanine SOD2 Genotype) that might make them more responsive to MPX. Prostate specific antigen (PSA) is a protein produced by the cells of the prostate gland. PSA test can monitor patients with a history of prostate (condition) to see if the (condition) has come back. This phase III trial studies how well MPX works in treating rising prostate-specific antigen levels (PSA) in men, following initial therapy for prostate (condition) compared to those not taking MPX."
