First, olive oil is rich in a molecule called squalene. Squalene is easily absorbed because it is very similar in composition to sebum, which is the skin protection oil your body produces naturally. Squalene prevents moisture loss and helps to keep your skin elastic and supple.

Because squalene is similar to sebum, it is also a great carrier of healthy vitamins and other molecules deep into the skin.

The second benefit of olive oil is that it is naturally rich in vitamins A, D, E and K. This makes olive oil a potent antioxidant (which, by the way, is why the Mediterranean diet is so healthy). The job of antioxidants is to neutralize the free radical molecules which cause your skin to age.
